Your First Visit
Your first visit will be a consultation with an initial evaluation. During the evaluation, you will be asked questions about your current symptoms, your past psychiatric history, your medical history, and other relevant information.
These questions may be personal, and you may feel some discomfort answering them. We encourage you to be as open as possible so that we have the most complete information with which we can provide you the most effective assistance.
The initial visit also is an opportunity for you to decide whether or not I am the right psychiatrist for you. A good therapeutic relationship needs a good fit between the client and the psychiatrist. Only you can be the judge of how comfortable you are talking with me.
Medications are generally not prescribed until the evaluation is been completed, so please make sure that you have enough medication from your previous treating physician. Occasionally, evaluations cannot be completed in one visit and must be completed in a second session. You will need to have sufficient medication on hand until we meet to finish the evaluation.
If it appears that you may benefit from treatment elsewhere, you will be given appropriate referrals.
